I mentioned in part one
how HBO TV series are amazing. I haven't seen them all because ...
well, they say it's not okay to spend all of your time indoors, watching
TV. I know. Crazy People. Anyway, they have awesome series that I
forgot to mention before, hence the 'part 2' of the post. I'm sure there
are more, maybe even some I am forgetting about right now, but here are
a couple of great ones. And a Showtime one.
I will start
with Girls. Some people hate it, some love it. I love it because of its
dark humor and awkward characters. It is much closer to reality than the
series it got compared to when it started, that being Sex and the City.
Except for the fact that there are indeed four girls living in New York
City, there aren't any other similarities. It's not all glam and high
heels but real struggles spiced up with funny moments and cynicism. It's
dark and smart and I think every girl in their 20s should watch Girls.
Next on the list is Entourage. Who doesn't love the guys from
Entourage? It's about an up&coming actor and his close friends
having a taste of the good life in the sunny yet fickle world of
Hollywood. It's funny, it's relaxing and it has its moments of twists
and turns that make it even better. You'll also see real celebrities
playing themselves. It's very interesting to see a little bit of how the
movie business really is. The series ended after 8 seasons but the good
news is that they have the movie Entourage coming up this Summer. If
you start the series now, you'd be all caught up in time for the movie.
Ah, lucky you! I sometimes wish I could erase my memory of ever watching
this and start watching it all over again. Yes, my dreams are small yet
unattainable:))
Another favorite sitcom of mine is Californication! IMDB says it's
about ' A self-loathing, alcoholic writer attempts to repair his damaged
relationships with his daughter and her mother while combating sex
addiction, a budding drug problem, and the seeming inability to avoid
making bad decisions.' Yes, it's about all that but it's not as
depressing as it sounds. It's actually a comedy/drama. It has great
dialogue, a lot of sarcasm, interesting characters and a David Duchovny
that plays his role very well:)
A big plus for me regarding these sitcoms is the music. They
have great soundtracks and with each episode I discover at least one new
song/band. I could talk about sitcoms and TV series all day long
because I prefer them instead of movies/films. With movies I feel that I
get involved and committed to the characters and in two hours it's
over. If I like it, I want more and if there isn't more, I'm not playing.:) In TV series I like that the characters have more time and
'space' to evolve. I can witness their journey, watch them grow, see the
same characters react in different circumstances and follow more
storylines at once. It's closer to reality that way.
Here are a few quotes I liked.
Girls
' This is how much money I make a week? This is a lot more than my rent.
This is insane, I'm just gonna like walk into a store in the Meatpacking
district and make it rain! '
' Can you believe my friend told me she died so that she didn't have to hang out with me? '
' Guys, we're so disconnected. I thought this would just be a nice
opportunity for us to have fun together and prove to everyone via
Instagram that we could still have fun as a group. '
Entourage
' We're going to Hell so bring your sunblock. '
' You don't come to Sundance for the snow. You come for the heat! '
' Nobody's happy in this town except for the losers. Look at me, I'm miserable, that's why I'm rich. '
Californication
' We needn’t ever speak of it again but one does not very easily forget
the kiss of a beautiful woman. That’s right. I said it. I meant it. I’m
here to represent it. '
' She said one thing. I said
another. Next thing I knew, I wanted to spend the rest of my life in the
middle of that conversation. '
' Rehab is for quitters. 'Labels: californication, entourage, girls, great tv series to watch, Thoughts
